Beniure
A village in the municipality of Sant Esteve de la Sarga


Beniure is a small village in the municipality of Sant Esteve de la Sarga. The land is partly flat and partly mountains, composed of clay and calcareous soil.
The forest is shared with the Castellnou municipality. The entire north face of the montsec was replanted with pine trees some 50 years ago. There are also fruit trees and very quiet and healthy energy to rest. Beniure lies on the side of a hill that shields it from the western winds, providing a calm weather.
Traditionally, since the beginning of the 18th century, the village it’s been composed by 5 grouped houses where 4 household families and around 22 inhabitants lived. One of these families has always been Cal Moliner., until the family moved to Barcelona in the 60s.
The village is part of the old medieval border with the Arabs, due to the orography of the Montsec. Along the entire border there are numerous castles and watchtowers in different conservation states. In particular, the Castell de Mur and the Torre d’Alsamora stand out.
