The environement
The surroundings of the house and the village lay in the Montsec of Ares, part of the worldwide network of UNESCO’s GeoParks. Nights with clear sky show a picture that cannot be seen anywhere else in Catalonia, cataloged as a Starlight UNESCO reservation. The quality of the sky from the terraces of the house is breathtaking.
The calcareous rock of the Montsec, formed at the bottom of the ocean millions of years ago, still preserves numerous fossils of varying complexity, the simplest ones can be found on stones, just taking a walk around Beniure. The most important findings can be found in the Pallars Cretaceous Park, including bones, footprints and dinosaur eggs. Moreover, this type of rock favors the formation of caves and stands out, among them, the Boixeguer Hole.
The town is part of the old medieval border with the Arabs, due to the orography of the Montsec. Along the entire border there are numerous castles and watchtowers in different conservation states. In particular, the Castell de Mur and the Torre d’Alsamora stand out. The environment is replete of cultural assets of national interest, and integrated assets of the cultural, archaeological and palaeontological Catalan heritage.
